This week in the office of U.S. Senator Marco Rubio:

  • Marco continued his work on a bipartisan solution to provide additional funding to fight Zika in Florida.  
  • Marco welcomed the announcement by the Senate Majority Leader that the Senate would move forward on a Continuing Resolution (CR) that would fund the government beyond September 30 and include additional money to fight Zika.  
  • On the Senate floor, Marco detailed the harm Zika has inflicted on tourism in Florida, and called on both parties to end the political games and address the crisis right away. Watch here.
  • Marco spoke on the Senate floor about Zika for a 12 th time, and urged both parties in both chambers of Congress to pass anti-Zika funding for the good of Floridians and the American people. Watch here.
  • In a Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee hearing, Marco spoke about the economic impact the Zika virus is having on small businesses in Florida and Puerto Rico, and questioned the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Administrator about the agency’s ability to provide assistance to small businesses in Florida hurt by the Zika outbreak.   • Marco succeeded in getting the Central Everglades Planning Project (CEPP) passed in the Senate:
  • On Monday, Marco welcomed the Senate’s continued advancement of the Central Everglades Planning Project (CEPP), as well as three more Florida provisions included in the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) that Marco worked on.
  • On Wednesday, Marco voted in support of proceeding to a vote on final passage of the bill.
  • Marco introduced legislation to prevent suspected terrorists from purchasing firearms. Marco’s bill, the Terror Intelligence Improvement Act, strengthens and improves on proposals introduced in the U.S. Senate following the June 12th terrorist attack at Pulse night club in Orlando.
  • Marco continues to stand up for freedom and democracy in Cuba. Watch Marco’s video address to the Cuba Internet Freedom Conference in Miami.
  • After the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) admitted that, contrary to its earlier announcement, U.S. air marshals are not present on commercial flights to and from Cuba, Marco blasted the Obama Administration for lying to the American people and endangering Floridians.
