This week in the office of U.S. Senator Marco Rubio:

  • Marco stood with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Department of Defense (DoD) in honoring Vietnam veterans as part of the national Vietnam War Commemoration . “On this day, we honor and thank our nation’s Vietnam veterans for their service and sacrifice on behalf of the United States,” Marco said. “Our nation’s men and women in uniform are extraordinary examples of selflessness and courage. Today, let us pay tribute to them, their families, and all those who supported the United States during the Vietnam War.” Read Marco’s full statement honoring Vietnam veterans here
  • Marco and Senator Mark Kirk (R-IL) pressed the Obama Administration on its work to provide Iran access to the U.S. financial system or give Iran access to U.S. dollars outside of the U.S. financial system. “Such efforts would benefit Iran’s financiers of international terrorism, human rights abuses, and ballistic missile threats,” the senators wrote in a letter. • Marco urged the Obama Administration to ensure the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have the opportunity to weigh in on the largest proposed foreign takeover by a Chinese company in history. “Our nation grows in population, and with it, an increased need for food security,” Marco wrote in a letter. “I respectfully request you exercise your authority to allow the Secretary from the USDA and the Commissioner of the FDA to weigh in on the proposed ChemChina-Syngenta acquisition.” Read more about Marco’s work to protect our American food supply here .
  • Marco requested that National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Administrator, Dr. Kathryn Sullivan, keep hurricane hunter aircraft in Florida. “The recent announcement that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) must vacate the hangar at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida, by July 1, 2017 has garnered much attention and concern,” Marco wrote. “Florida provides a strategic location to deploy for hurricane research and forecasting.  NOAA’s operations have a long and proud Florida history, one I encourage you to maintain for many years.” Read more about Marco’s work to keep hurricane hunter aircraft in Florida here
  • Patricia and Larry, residents of Sumterville, FL, contacted Marco’s office on March 17, 2016, regarding a delay in their income tax return. The return had been accepted by the IRS electronically on January 1, 2016, and was expected to be released on February 11, 2016. Marco’s staff sent an inquiry to the IRS on Patricia and Larry’s behalf on March 23, 2016, and the tax return was successfully released a week later.
