This week, the Lone Star State was ravaged by destructive storms and flooding. The devastation inflicted by these floods is absolutely heartbreaking. Lives and homes have been taken from us.  At this time, I pray for strength and peace for all of the families who have lost loved ones. I lift up the people who have lost their homes and those who face damaged homes. All of the first responders have performed tremendously during this challenging time, and I’m gratified to see communities coming together. As the water recedes, wreckage will be cleared, homes will be rebuilt and repaired, and Texans will continue to demonstrate resilience and unity.”

I commend Gov. Abbott’s strong leadership throughout this horrific flooding and will continue to work closely with local and state government officials, along with the entire Texas delegation, to ensure a smooth recovery process.

Keep Texas Strong,
Ted Cruz

A Regional Update from Southeast Texas Regional Director Jessica Hart and Southeast Texas Regional Deputy Director Will Miller

This week, historic rains overwhelmed Houston, causing the second largest flood event in the area in modern history. Sen. Cruz’s Southeast Texas Regional Director Jessica Hart and Southeast Texas Regional Deputy Director Will Miller witnessed firsthand the devastating loss and damage in Southeast Texas due to the recent flooding. A storm system early Monday morning caused massive amounts of devastation impacting thousands of residents in the greater Houston area. Hart and Miller have been on the ground helping constituents impacted by the flood. They received updates on the historic flooding from city and county officials, local leaders, and volunteer agencies. Additionally, they visited Red Cross shelters in Harris County that have housed nearly 400 evacuees.

Sen. Cruz Issues Statement on UnitedHealth Withdrawal from Obamacare Exchanges

On Tuesday, Sen. Cruz issued the following statement after UnitedHealth’s announcement that it would be withdrawing from Obamacare exchanges in most states:

“UnitedHealth has announced it is pulling out of the Obamacare exchanges. That’s the latest in a string of Obamacare failures that have led to American families losing their doctors, having few or no insurance options, and facing skyrocketing premiums and deductibles,” Sen. Cruz said.

“Sadly, none of this comes as a surprise. Conservatives predicted this result years ago, and yet here we are: with health insurance that is worse and costs more, with a system that kills jobs and lowers paychecks, and with a federal government that stands between Americans and their doctors.”

Sen. Cruz Rebukes Paris Climate Agreement

Today, Sen. Cruz issued the following statement condemning the signing of the Paris Climate Agreement at the U.N. Headquarters:

“This Paris Climate Agreement is the latest in the Obama administration’s string of attacks on the livelihoods of American families, increasing costs by trillions and causing everyday household bills to skyrocket,” Sen. Cruz said. “Public policy should follow science, evidence, and data, but instead we have a White House full of global warming alarmists imposing partisan dogma that hurts working men and women. We have liberal politicians who want government power over the economy, the energy sector, and every aspect of our lives. Rather than turning attention and resources to real national security threats, such as radical Islamic terrorists who want to kill us, the Obama Administration is instead focused on the SUV parked in your driveway.”

Sen. Cruz Applauds Netanyahu’s Courage in Standing Up for the Safety of the Israeli People

This week, Sen. Cruz issued a statement regarding Prime Minister Netanyahu’s call to recognize Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights.

After Sen. Cruz strongly supported the Prime Minister’s statement on the status of the Golan Heights, the Department of State signaled that the Obama administration does not accept the Golan as sovereign Israeli territory.

“The government of Israel reiterated the reality that the Golan Heights are part of Israel’s sovereign territory,” Sen. Cruz said. “Given the presence of hostile terrorist organizations ranging from ISIS to Hezbollah on Israel’s northern border, it is foolhardy and dangerous for elements in the international community to try to pressure Israel to abandon the Golan to the chaos engulfing Syria. The path to peace cannot involve Israel’s abdication of its own security.

“I applaud Prime Minister Netanyahu’s courage in standing up for the safety of his people. America stands with you.”
