Marco Rubio - U.S. Senator for Florida E-Newsletter
This week in the office of U.S. Senator Marco Rubio:

  • In an effort to prevent illegal bailouts for health insurers under the Affordable Care Act’s risk corridor programs, Marco and U.S. Senators, Ben Sasse (R-NE), John Barrasso (R-WY) and Mike Lee (R-UT), introduced the HHS Slush Fund Elimination Act. “Repealing and replacing ObamaCare is a top priority in the coming months, but one of the biggest battles we face right now is stopping the Obama Administration from using billions in taxpayer dollars to bail out health insurance companies,” said Marco. “The American people are paying too much for health insurance already, and they shouldn’t be forced to fork over even more of their paychecks to corporations that embraced a flawed health care law.”
  • Marco applauded President-Elect Trump’s selection of Mike Pompeo for CIA Director.
  • Marco welcomed the Senate’s passage of the Gold Star Families Voices Act (H.R. 4511). The Act would preserve the memories of fallen military personnel by collecting video and audio recordings of biographical histories from the immediate family members of servicemembers killed or missing in action. “We owe the men and women of the Armed Forces a debt that we can never fully repay,” Marco said. “I’m proud to support the Gold Star Families Voices Act because it will document the life stories and legacies of these valiant men and women who gave their lives defending America.”
  • Marco commented after Wednesday’s meeting of the Puerto Rico Task Force.“The other members of the Puerto Rico task force and I have important work to do by year’s end  before making recommendations on consensus policies that can get Puerto Rico’s economy growing again,” said Marco. “This is just one of many steps that need to occur in the coming years to help encourage new job creation, attract investment to the island, and make sure every American citizen there can go as far as their talents and work ethic take them.”
  • Marco met with Cuban dissident Guillermo “Coco” Fariñas. “In the coming months and years, one of my top priorities will continue to be advocating for the God-given rights of Cuban dissidents like Guillermo ‘Coco’ Fariñas,” said Marco. “I will continue to fight to make sure civil society and dissidents from Cuba and other countries get more support from the United States than their oppressors.”
  • Marco and Tim Kaine (D-VA), introduced the Combatting European Anti-Semitism Act, legislation addressing the growing issue of anti-Semitism across Europe . “I am deeply concerned with the recent harassment and violence seen across Europe against Jews in schools and synagogues, as well as certain governments amplifying anti-Semitic messages,” Marco said. “America must prioritize working with European governments to combat this insidious global phenomenon.”
